Youth in Revolt Finally Starts Casting

Producers of the upcoming C.D. Payne adaptation, Youth in Revolt, decided to spill the beans on developments in casting at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
While Nick Twisp’s shoes have long-since been filled in by Michael Cera, fans of the novel had been curious as to which actors would fill the rest of the slots, as all the roles are quite difficult to tackle. That is, until now! Steve Buscemi will be playing Twisp’s playboy, two-timing father George Twisp while Ray Liotta, Jean Smart, and M. Emmet Walsh have jumped aboard as well.
The Good Girl director Miguel Arteta is attached to the film, adapted by Charlie Bartlett writer Gustin Nash.

Friends, Fun and Fashion: Sex and the City Movie Review
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: New Line, Romance, Comedy, Box Office, New Releases, Theatrical Reviews,
I awoke on Friday feeling energized, excited and expectant, one thought drumming through my head: today is the day. A special outfit, picked out two days in advance, hung at the front of my closet. The tickets to the show were sitting securely in my purse. I could almost feel an electric buzz in the air as I thought to myself, in just a few hours I’ll be seeing the Sex and the City movie. If I could stand the suspense long enough.
I set my hair early, wrapping my head in a green bandana so no one could see my curlers. I started making confirmation calls at four in the afternoon (I was going to leave my apartment at eight), and by the time the clock struck five I was sitting on the couch with three bags of make-up spread around me. For this special opening night, I was leaving absolutely nothing to chance.

MTV Showcases New Choke Trailer

While things failed to appear very promising with the mixed reviews out there thus far, the trailer for nihilistic author Chuck Palahniuk‘s latest novel-turned-film doesn’t actually look that bad!
Despite the fact that I am as much of an MTV hater as the next person, I have to admit that they do help out a couple independent films here and there that I end up truly enjoying (think Better Luck Tomorrow or Orange County). With that said, I was extremely disappointed to read the bad reviews on Choke, although seeing that MTV is now airing the official trailer for the film got my hopes up a bit. They even have an interview with Palahniuk himself on the New Jersey set.
As for the trailer (check it out after the jump), aside from the weird porn background music, Sam Rockwell seems to have pulled Victor Mancini’s persona straight from Palahniuk’s very pages. The very racy and provocative film’s release date has been pushed back to September 26th.

Sex and the City: Boom in Frame?
Posted by Shannon Bennett Categories: New Line, Romance, Comedy, Filmmaking,
I sincerely hoped this issue was only present at my screening and could be blamed on a lazy projectionist not wanting to work the graveyard shift for two theaters jam-packed with estrogen - but according to my Google search, I’m afraid not.
At the midnight showing of the new Sex and the City movie at the Waterford Lakes Plaza in Orlando, FL, viewers were awed by not just the return of the Fab Four, but by several occasions of boom microphones slipping into frame during the film. At one point, Chris Noth even walks right up to what is clearly the top end of a Kino light or a flag on a C-stand.

Sharon Stone Apologizes for China Remark
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Celebrity Controversy,
What a difference a year makes. In 2007, Sharon Stone was serving on the jury of the Shanghai International Film Festival. Today, that same organizing committee has banned her for life.
This stiff decision was a result of Stone’s controversial remarks about the Chinese earthquake; it follows a large theater chain’s proposed boycott of the star’s films.
As part of the fallout, one of Stone’s own employers has had to take swift action to repair the damage. In addition to dropping the 50-year-old from their Chinese ads, fashion house Christian Dior has released a statement from the Casino actress:
“Due to my inappropriate words and acts during the interview, I feel deeply sorry and sad about hurting Chinese people. I am willing to take part in the relief work of China’s earthquake, and wholly devote myself to helping affected Chinese people.”
So Sharon’s insensitive remarks caused her to lose work? Now, I think that would qualify as karmic retribution.

Mischa Barton Bails on Film Producers

Someone please tell me - who is advising this girl???
Although Mischa Barton has had a chance to revive her career post-O.C. death, post-DUI bust…the actress has made series of blunders lately.
First she turned down a juicy part in the Joss Schwartz’s Gossip Girl (that part eventually eventually went to Michelle Trachtenberg), then her rep accused photographers of photoshopping cellulite onto her rear. Now she’s bailed on the people who were nice enough to employ her!

Eddie Murphy Returns as Beverly Hills Cop
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Paramount, Action, Sequels, Comedy, Celeb News, Upcoming Releases,
Eddie Murphy, the comedian who loves to milk a sequel, has just found a new way to raise money for child support. The actor has approached Paramount about reliving his glory days in another Beverly Hills Cop installment. Oh to be young and in 1984 again…
Surprisingly, the studio - believing Indiana Jones’ success will apply to other franchises - has agreed to greenlight the project for a 2010 release. (That target date will have given the audiences a whole 16 years to forget about Beverly Hills Cop III.) Call me pessimistic, but I don’t think this outing will come close to the original’s $316 million worldwide take.

As masses of mostly-female fans huddled behind barriers wearing their promotional tank tops, the four women of the hour strolled down the red carpet for New York’s premiere of Sex and the City (the very last stop on a three-premiere tour for the movie), held at Radio City Music Hall. For this gala event, there is one concern which shines above all others: what did our Sexy ladies wear?
